About

MICHAEL SHAPIRO

Michael Shapiro was born in San Jose, CA but was raised in Las Vegas, NV. In 2000 he moved to Portland, OR, followed by a move to San Rafael, CA in 2006. As of April 2015, he’s back living in Las Vegas fronting the Band/Show, Reckless In Vegas.

Music has been a constant throughout his entire life. He picked up his first guitar at age 13 and trained hard in guitar, vocals, piano and trumpet and attuned his ear to classical opera as well as rock. A chance encounter with a family friend struck the right cord and paved Shapiro’s way into music.

At age 16, he had the opportunity to jam with Bruce Springsteen. The rocker’s energetic marathon performances spurred Shapiro to develop a taste for a raucous stage presence. After stints in various cover bands in his teens, Shapiro formed the band Trip, released 3 albums and toured. Being part of the VH1 Rock Across America Tour, Trip opened for artists such as Edwin McCain, Duncan Sheik, The Romantics, and Cheap Trick. It was during an ill-fated gig in 2003 while out on tour opening for Great White when a tragic fire struck, that moved Shapiro to deeply reflect on life’s vagaries and whims. This experience inspired a prolific writing period. In 2006, he recorded and released his first solo album. The first single off the album, “Hope”, received a warm radio welcome earning it’s way to the number 3 most added song in the US at 1100 spins per week. This success landed Michael on a National tour opening for the multi-platinum selling band Live.

In 2008, after moving to the SF Bay Area, Michael formed Reckless In Vegas. Releasing their first album with multi-platinum Producer Dan Shea(Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion, Santana, Jessica Simpson, Tom Jones/Paul Anka), followed by a second album in 2011 with Producer Sylvia Massy(Undertow, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tool, Johnny Cash, System of a Down). Returning to Producer Dan Shea in 2013 with a Vegas concept album and show, Reckless In Vegas released their third album featuring original, modern rock arrangements of classic vintage Las Vegas songs from artist such as Sinatra, Dean Martin, Frankie Valli, Sonny & Cher, Sammy Davis Jr., and more. In April 2017 he joined the cast of The World’s Greatest Rock Show at The Stratosphere performing as Bruce Springsteen.

“At the age of 36 I found myself in the painful grip of 23 years of drug, alcohol, love, and sex addiction, but was gifted with a moment of clarity. A crystal clear turning point realizing if I continued on that path, I would die. I wanted to live and for the 5th time in 6 years, I reached out for help, this time with complete surrender. I became desperate enough to become wholeheartedly open minded, willing, and honest about my situation, as if my life depended on it, because it did. I am grateful every moment, to truly be in recovery. My relationship with my higher power and my sobriety will always be my number one priority.”

Currently Michael is thoroughly enjoying life in Las Vegas with his wife, JoLae, and their furry feathered family, dogs Shappy and Melvin Harvey, and 5 chickens, Barbara Q, Nugget, Big Mama, Bertha, and BM, while refocusing his energies on RIV and their new TV Reality series Reckless In Vegas’ Toast and Jam.

Shapiro has toured all over the United States, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Portugal, and Spain, and has done it all CLEAN AND SOBER!

T & J GUESTS

VIN A.

MICHAEL'S POPS

Vin Adinolfi, a.k.a. Vin A, was born in NYC in 1988.  His father, Vin Adinolfi Jr., was a record executive/producer for Lifesong Records for 30+ years and produced many notable artists such as Jim Croce, The Partridge Family and Dion, to name a few.  The label’s bosses came in one day and said they had been bought out by Sony, so his father was out of work and had nowhere to turn. Why does Vin A’s story start here you ask?  Since the age of 7, Vin had been learning to play piano and guitar by ear.  When his father lost his job, Vin was 14 years old and was asked by him to start a band with his younger brother, Nick (who started playing drums at age 6).  The band would be a retrospective of his father’s career and they would perform songs his dad had either produced, sung back up on, or worked with over the years.   The band they formed would forever be known as  “The Bronx Wanderers.”

The Bronx Wanderers started touring all over the NY tri-state area playing small clubs and catering halls.  After two years of performing and amassing a small, loyal following, the band started playing 200-255 shows a year across the country.  First, they were getting asked to open oldies shows for renowned artists such as Peter Noone (Herman’s Hermits), Tony Orlando, The Turtles, The Drifters, The Shirelles, Gary Puckett, and more.  After a few years of hard work and honing their craft, they were headlining those same oldies shows along with major festivals, casinos and PACs across the country.

At this same time, Vin was studying to get a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Management at Stockton University in New Jersey.  Vin had to tour on the weekends to help support his family and career and attend college during the week for 4 years.  He graduated with honors in 2010.  In his senior year, he and his brother had won a battle of the bands contest and got the opportunity to open for “Brand New” at his college in front of 5,000 screaming peers and fans.  It was only his second solo gig, the first being the contest.  By the age of 27, Vin had produced 5 full-length studio albums (Bronx Wanderers and Vin A albums) under his then newly-created record label, Whichway Records.  He plays 6+ instruments including guitar, piano, drums, bass, banjo, violin, and even the 3 and 4 string cigar box slide guitar (all taught by ear).

Vin A currently lives in Las Vegas and The Bronx Wanderers have secured a residency with Caesar’s Entertainment since 2016.  They’ve been performing at Bally’s 7 nights a week in the Windows Showroom (which they share with Wayne Newton), they’ve won 4 Best Of Las Vegas awards, a 5-Star Yelp award, a Top Ten Trip Advisor award (#8 out of 184 shows in Las Vegas), and still manage to have time to perform for charitable organizations such as Win Win Charity, St. Jude’s Ranch for Children, Neurofibrosis, and multiple veteran’s associations.

With Bronx Wanderers raging on 7 nights/week, how Vin still finds time to pursue a solo career is baffling, but he does.  In 2018, Vin won another contest by submitting his original material to 96.3 KKLZ and got voted to open for Bon Jovi at T-Mobile Arena to perform his originals in front of 18,000+ people.  He also headlined the Motley Brews Downtown Brewfest performing for 3,000 people in October.  He’s a regular performer at the prominent “Composer’s Showcase” which features original artists once a month at the Smith Center (Las Vegas’ version of Lincoln Center.)

Between The Bronx Wanderers and his solo accomplishments, Vin has sung the national anthem at Madison Square Garden for the NY Rangers along with the NBA summer league in Las Vegas at Thomas and Mack Center, has filled in for Frankie Valli in the United Arab Emirates, Dubai, has sold over 50,000 records, and continues to make hundreds of thousands of people smile each year with his family act and personal music.  Vin A is a performer for the ages for ALL ages and his talent is only overshadowed by his humble nature.

The Bronx Wanderers.

Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, it was Rock & Roll Hall of Fame legend Dion Dimucci who set Yo’ Vinny on the path to becoming a musician. It was also with Dion’s help that he came to work for Terry Cashman & Tommy West.  Cashman & West are best known for producing all of Jim Croce’s hit records. While working for Cashman & West, he was also able to work with Dion on the albums Return Of The Wanderer & Fire In The Night.  Still with Cashman, West and their partner Phil Kurnit to this day, he produces records for Winthrop Records, Metrostar Records, American Originals Records and Lifesong Records.

It was Hollywood actor, director and writer, Chazz Palminteri, who is also from the same Bronx neighborhood, who told Yo’ Vinny to take the kids and start a musical group.  It was under Chazz’s guidance that they decided to name the group The Bronx Wanderers.

TAJ MAHAL

MUSICIAN

In September 2014, some 50 years after moving to Los Angeles to form the band Rising Sons with fellow blues musician Ry Cooder and Jessie Lee Kincaid, Taj Mahal hightailed it to Nashville to receive an honor he called “one of the most powerful and wonderful things that could ever happen in my life.” Celebrating decades of recording and touring that have nearly singlehandedly reshaped the definition and scope of the blues via the infusion of exotic sounds from the Caribbean, Africa and South Pacific, the two-time Grammy winning singer, songwriter, film composer, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist was feted with the Lifetime Achievement for Performance Award at the 13th Annual Americana Honors and Awards.

“I’ve been performing for over 50 years, and to be recognized for the road I’ve traveled means the world to me, says Mahal, who during the show performed “Statesboro Blues” – which he first recorded on his eponymous 1968 debut album – on dobro with a band that included Cooder and Don Was. “I could not have done this without the audience that has been so supportive of me throughout my musical journey. It was a fantastic night and I was thrilled to be there and celebrated among such other outstanding American musical treasures like Jackson Browne and Flaco Jimenez, whose music and talent I am a fan of. It certainly represented a diversity of musical styles and culture. That’s what I’m talking about essay help!”

The night at the legendary Ryman Auditorium capped another extraordinary year for Mahal, which began with a performance at the Gregg Allman Tribute Concert in Atlanta and included playing on the entire Blind Boys of Alabama Christmas album; performing as part of the Bonnaroo Superjam on a bill featuring Derek Trucks with Chaka Khan, Eric Krasno from Soulive,  renowned R&B/blues session drummer James Gadson, David Hidalgo from Los Lobos and Susan Tedeschi; and playing and recording with Van Morrison in Dublin.

Since the release of 2008’s Maestro, his most recent studio recording which received a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Blues Album, Mahal has been busier than ever touring and recording at a whirlwind pace with old friends and fellow musical sojourners. In 2010, after being nominated for Entertainer of the Year by the Blues Foundation, he joined Jimmy Fallon’s Late Night studio band The Roots as a special musical guest on the Rolling Stones classic “Shine a Light.” He also opened in Lake Tahoe for Bob Dylan. One of the highlights of the following year as performing a special opening solo set for Eric Clapton and Wynton Marsalis at Lincoln Center; Mahal also performed several songs with his two fellow legends. The concert was recorded and released as a CD and CD/DVD entitled “Wynton Marsalis & Eric Clapton Play The Blues – Live From Jazz at Lincoln Center.”

After starting 2012 producing and performing (vocals, guitar and banjo) on Vusi Mahlasela’s live album Say Africa, Mahal joined the critically acclaimed Experience Hendrix tour for a three week run that included performances by everyone from Buddy Guy, Dweezil Zappa and Robby Krieger to Robert Randolph, Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Keb’ Mo’ and Living Colour. Energized anew after the Sony Legacy release of two collections celebrating the riches and rarities of his musical legacy – the two disc set The Hidden Treasures of Mahal Mahal 1967-1973, featuring a full live 1970 concert from Royal Albert Hall, and The Complete Columbia Albums Collection box set, featuring all of his LPs from 1968-1976 – the bluesman enjoyed a wildly productive 2013.

That spring found Mahal singing and playing harmonica on “Further Down the Road” from Clapton’s Old Sock album, and performing as a featured guest at Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival at MSG (NYC) where over 30 of the world’s greatest guitarists played sidemen to each other over two nights. Mahal jammed with The Allman Brothers Band featuring David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas of Los Lobos and in a special unplugged acoustic set with Keb’ Mo’.

That June marked the release of the all-star soundtrack album to “Ghost Brothers of Darkland County,” a supernatural blues n’ roots musical featuring music and lyrics by John Mellencamp, a libretto by author Stephen King and production by T-Bone Burnett. Mahal appeared on “Home Again” with Sheryl Crow, Dave Alvin and Phil Alvin, in addition to “Tear This Cabin Down” and “What Kind of Man Am I.” He later performed on “Vicksburg Blues” on actor/recording artist Hugh Laurie’s album Didn’t It Rain and a new rendition of his song “Winding Down” on the Sammy Hagar & Friends recording. He capped the year with “An Evening with Taj Mahal” at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles.

Mahal’s career has been full of and defined by colorful twists and turns, unexpected whimsical ventures and a commitment to a muse that has long preferred freewheeling innovation to conformity. So there’s always the challenge of finding the right words and phrases to capture just what he’s meant to American music over the past half century. Miles Mellough, who wrote the stark and honest, no holds barred liner notes for The Complete Columbia Albums Collection, captures the complexities perfectly on several posts he penned on his blog Birds with Broken Wings after the box set came out.

“Here’s the thing, plain and simple,” he writes. “Taj Mahal has always been a conundrum; a man who is capable of mirroring many things to many people, and the reason why is because he’s an enigma — an alchemist and a contrarian…Through his music he’s been a dirt farmer, a man of gentry, and a Mississippi riverboat gambler. He’s played the role of the pious country preacher of old South camp meetings to a chain gang prisoner breaking rocks in the hot, midday sun. He’s been a hard-boiled harp player with a gold tooth and process blowing gritty on the South side of Chicago to a West Indies fishing boat captain sipping Banana Daiquiri’s with a St. Kitts woman…Like the blues tree with its many roots, Mahal has become the sum of many parts. But if you were to strip him of the elements that have come to define him publicly, you’d no doubt find that beneath it all he’s really just a simple man with a harp, a steel guitar, and a banjo in his rucksack; a man making music with a whole hell of a lot of heart and soul.”
